Name Urhobo State "EHIOPE STATE"

Dear Editor:

First, I must commend your foresight and creativity in coming up with this unique website, and the wonderful job you're doing with it. Please let me know if  I can be of any assistance as you endeavor to move the cause of our people forward, in the league of other notable stalwarts like Urhobo Historical Society, etc.

I wish also to note with particular interest, current musings about the creation of an Urhobo state. I believe this is a worthy and doable enterprise that every Urhobo son and daughter should commit to, and work towards.

Given the criteria recently outlined by the Senate President that henceforth, the creation new states would depend among others, on their economic viability, there's no reason why any state/states created out of present-day Urhoboland can't be amongst the most viable in the country.

As a result, I would like to respectfully suggest that such a state be named ETHIOPE* STATE. And in lieu of the Constitutional Review Committing sittings, I humbly call on all Urhobo sons and daughters both at home and abroad to work hard and mobilize for the creation of Ethiope State to so be.

Every good wish,

Diesode, NY

*P.S. Ethiope derives from one of Delta State’s most prominent rivers,   River Ethiope. Not to be confused with Ethiopia and/or Ethiopians. The State of Ethiope is pronounced

[EH-THIOPE] and the [indigenes of the State of Ethiope would be known as Ethiopeans]
